"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me." - Galatians 2:20

HOPE OF CHRIST

The recent events in Connecticut has transpired deep emotions within us.  Internal gnawing beckons our most reserved anger.  Grief swallows us like a tidal wave.  Compassion compels us to our knees.  Love forces us to pause and consider, the depth of pain for another.

We cry out to our Lord, seeking His mercy to sustain our ache.  Questions encompass our thoughts like mourners at a wake.  Tender gentleness embraces those we love, realizing our own eternity could unexpectedly come .

When tragedy strikes, we become acutely aware of the brevity of life and our desperate need for Jesus Christ.  Some will turn to Him, some will turn from, but all must recognize, victory over death is already won.

Emotions are elusive, not able to offer concrete hope.  We cannot escape the wounds of a warfare zone.  Our stability may wobble and our joy appear dim, but even in the darkness, the blood of Christ covers our sin.  Though they were scarlet, He transforms them to white, because of the power of His atoning light.

This light is our hope, our strength and our peace.  May our hope in Christ infuse the bleak world we lease.  In the darkness, our light shines most powerfully.  Even the smallest ray, illumines reality.  Reality announces our absolute need, for Christ to cover our sinful deeds.

We eagerly await the return of our King.  "This world, is not our home!" we scream.  Comfort us, heal us, dry up our tears.  Only the hope of Christ, can carry us through our final years.

I know this is not a regular post for me.  Honestly, I've struggled to digest the deaths at Sandy Hook.  My heart goes out to the victims of this wretched tragedy.  Christmas truly declares the hope of Christ.  My prayer is for this Hope to infuse their hearts and yours.

  1. You put such raw emotion into such elegant prose, Hester. And yet, I know that's not what you care about. I, too, have earnestly hoped for Christ's return in recent days more than others. Thank you for letting me join you in prayer with this post today.
